Goals trump resolutions. Always.

Word for the year

I’ve been doing a word for the year since I started running in 2009. My first word was FURTHER. I had it engraved on a silver pendant that I wore almost daily throughout 2010.

I’ve spent a few days going through a process to uncover my word for the year 2018 and it is ….EMBODY.

And while the word takes in my whole life, it is very relevant to Fitter Faster 5 to 10.

This is the year to make visible and tangible the life-changing run coaching that I have been doing on the road. To put into print the learnings and discoveries I’ve made partnering with so many ladies to achieve so much more than they thought possible when they signed up to run 5 or 10kms.

Do you have a word for the year? I find it so much better than a resolution, which often has failure and therefore guilt built into it. The word is a theme, something you want to learn or lean into. It offers more power than a goal and you can’t fail to achieve it.  It’s supportive and inspiring. It encourages rather than judges. A word is your ally; it holds you to a high standard.

Now, just imagine yourself in the year ahead. How do you want to feel? What do you need more of? What is your theme for 2018? There is no effort involved in choosing your word.  Just be curious and ask yourself: “If I had a word for 2018, I wonder what it might be”, and then let your word come to you. Maybe while you’re out running 😉 (You can have a look at Susannah Conway’s 5-day email course to assist you in choosing your word.)

Let us know what your word is and how you imagine it showing up in you as a runner in 2018.
